Franco Angeli (Roma 1935 - 1988)

He exhibited for the first time at Galleria La Salita in 1959 and proposed a new figuration made of a single color and a constant monochrome, from black, to gray, to green, which however remains free to express its materiality. Angeli's production also includes a series of symbolic images that make his painting closer to the reality of history. These are the symbols that allow him to be remembered as one of the most famous artits in Italian Pop Art: for this artist the icons of the Roman world and of the power expressed by eagles are pop, next to swastikas, crosses, scythes and hammer and dollars , pop just because emblems linked to the masses. In 1964 Angeli was present at the XXXII Venice Biennale and at the exhibition "Young Roman painters" at Galleria della Tartaruga in Rome. In the eighties, however, his painting, once again using the brush as a working tool, lost its ideal strength leaving the image emptied.

In 1975, in Guastalla’s printshop in Livorno, he published with Graphis Arte five original colored lithographs. In the 1980s, through his gallery owner and friend Francesco Soligo, he has a work contract with the Guastalla Graphis Arte Gallery.
