Giulio Turcato
Biography

Giulio Turcato (Mantua 1912 - Rome 1995)

was one of the leading exponents of informal abstractionism in Italy. He experimented with innovative materials, creating works characterized by free signs, textural surfaces and an expressive use of color. In 1947 he signed the manifesto of the Forma 1 group and then joined the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti, with which he participated in the 1948 Venice Biennale. Later, in 1952, he joined the Group of Eight, with which he exhibited at that year's Biennale. His painting, influenced by the international avant-garde, is marked by a constant search for lightness, dynamism and formal synthesis.
