Sandro Martini (Leghorn 1941-Milan 2022)

Born in Livorno in 1941, he began his artistic career under the influence of his maternal grandfather, who introduced him to painting and art. After attending Scientific High School, he was inspired by his art history teacher to pursue an artistic career. After a brief passage at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, he graduated from the Augusto Passaglia Art Institute in Lucca. His first exhibitions and key encounters took place in Livorno and Milan, where he moved in 1960. From 1970 he began to experiment with three-dimensional forms, transforming canvases into installations such as, for example, the installation at the Milan Stock Exchange, the intervention in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele or the installation in the central hall of the Museo Progressivo d'Arte Contemporanea in Livorno. His international installations include those realised at Standford University, at the Kala Institute in San Francisco and the installation realised in 2012 in collaboration with the Canadian studio Architects Alliance, Glass Memory in Toronto. Since 1973, he has held numerous exhibitions in American cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.
