Mino Maccari (Siena 1898 - Roma 1989)

After taking part, in 1922, in the March on Rome, in 1924 Mino Maccari began working as a graphic designer for the weekly "Il Selvaggio", publishing his first caricatured line drawings and engaging an internal opposition to the fascist regime. In 1927 he opened in Florence at n. 60 in via Zanobi a small gallery, "La stanza del Selvaggio", where all the artists exhibit, linked to the newspaper that give life to the homonymous group. This is defined by Maccari as "synthetic realist", opposed to any form of abstractionism and decadence, linked to the cultural value of design and to the clarity and concreteness of a classic view. Maccari realizes many graphic folders, often configuring his production as a biting criticism of bourgeois customs that takes the form of a biting and incisive design and a figuration that is linked, on the one hand to plastic values, and on the other to Ensor's Expressionism.

In 2005 Guastalla Centro Arte gallery an exhibition with sixty works from 1930 to 1980 including paintings, mixed techniques and drawings, entitled “Un selvaggio indiscreto”.
